Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about forming an Estonian company

Do I need to live in Estonia or have a local partner to start?

No. A foreigner can fully own and manage an Estonian company, with no Estonian citizenship or residency required. What every company must have is a registered Estonian address and a local contact person — both of which we provide, so you keep full control.

How much do I actually pay, and is the state fee on top? +

For e-residents the plan price is what you pay: €315 one-off includes the state fee, a Tallinn business address and contact person services. After the first year, the address and contact person continue at €195 per year, or €15 per month. Prices may be subject to VAT.

Do I need Estonian e-Residency to start a company? +

No. e-Residency is not mandatory, but it significantly simplifies online formation, digital signing and ongoing administration. Without e-Residency, your company can still be formed through an Estonian notary using a Power of Attorney, which we arrange for you.

Can I open a business bank account if I'm not a resident? +

In many cases, yes. Fintech and e-money institutions such as Wise often allow remote onboarding, and partners like LHV serve Estonian companies. Traditional banks have become more selective with non-resident accounts and may require demonstrable ties to Estonia — we help you prepare either way.

How much corporate tax will my company really pay? +

Estonia charges 0% corporate income tax on retained and reinvested profits. Corporate tax is paid only when profits are distributed as dividends, which makes Estonia attractive for growth-focused businesses. VAT applies if your turnover exceeds €40,000 in a calendar year.

What has to happen every year once I'm set up? +

Every Estonian company submits an annual report within 6 months of its financial year-end, even if it was dormant. If VAT registered, you file monthly VAT returns by the 20th and payroll taxes by the 10th. Our packages bundle the contact person and registered address so the essentials stay covered.

Which company type should I choose? +

For most founders, a Private Limited Company (OÜ): it offers limited liability, flexible ownership and a minimum share capital of just €1, and is well suited to international founders, startups and online businesses.

How long does it take and can I do it from abroad? +

With an e-Residency card, completing the formation online takes about 15 minutes and registration usually completes in 1 to 5 working days. The whole process is handled online and the company can be managed remotely.
